Education required: Grade 12 diploma/GED and/or equivalent experience

Experience required: 1-2 years

Wage/Salary: $43,400

Duties: • Deliver prevention education sessions, harm reduction workshops, and cultural programming to various audiences such as local community organizations, people who use ANHN services, and conferences attendees • Establish workshop frequency/schedules and manage event promotion/logistics • Engage Elders and Knowledge Keepers to guide and support staff in the design and delivery of cultural programming • Identify informed non-Indigenous stakeholders with experience serving Indigenous people effectively; partner in workshop design and delivery; prepare and disseminate new and existing knowledge that has demonstrated desired outcomes and success • Design, develop, expand, and integrate services with Awasiw Centre and other ANHN programming to engage persons served (reiki, methadone, traditional healers, sharing circles, etc.) • Connect and build relationships as a first point of contact for individuals using ANHN services • Provide support, navigate referrals, and advocate for persons served related to services (treatment, healing, medical care, housing, etc.). • Establish relationships with non-Indigenous expertise, establish service agreements with said expertise, facilitate referrals where needed, and maintain follow-up with persons served • Other duties as required


General Description

The Cultural Health Navigator provides engagement and support services to the community, particularly to those that are using drugs and/or struggling with addictions

Qualifications

·         Relevant post-secondary degree or certificate or equivalent work experience in the field

·         Related experience in trauma-informed care, crisis support, substance use, mental health, and addiction

·         Demonstrated experience working with the complex needs of people experiencing homelessness, mental health and substance use

·         Demonstrated knowledge of community agencies and their relevant programs and services

·         Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction practices and Indigenous Knowledge systems

·         Naloxone training, recognizing an overdose, ability to assess the situation

·         Computer skills, Office 365

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking

·         Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills

·         Valid class 5 driver’s license

·         Lived experience is an asset
